For many years already this interior trend has been a steady companion to many people: the Scandi Chic. It should be a household name even for interior grouches, as a not entirely unknown Swedish furniture store made it popular a long time ago.
Today we would like to explain to you in more detail how to style the Scandi Chic and which prints go well with this calm, unobtrusive and friendly interior style.
We often associate Scandinavia with beautiful landscapes and tranquility, friendly blond people and, well, loooong, dark winters. It is dark up to 17 hours a day in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland in winter. So it stands to reason that the Scandinavians like to bring two things into their home through interior design – the gorgeous (yet in winter rather inaccessible) nature of the Nordic countries and above all: light.
The Scandi look is therefore mainly based on the following style cornerstones:
Natural materials, such as light, local woods (birch, spruce, ash or pine). Because they not only look bright and friendly, they also have a great feel to them.
Cotton, linen, fur and leather. Sustainability is very important to Scandinavians, which is why renewable raw materials are an absolute must.
Clear, no-frills lines and shapes, such as the famous chairs with the flared legs. In general, flared legs are a popular design decision for Scandi-Chic furniture, which is sometimes complemented by other retro elements: eye-catching style highlights for the otherwise simple look.
And, last but not least – possibly the most important characteristic of the Scandi look: its natural color palette. In principle, we work with muted colors such as gray tones (up to very dark gray or black), delicate pastel tones such as light blue or lime green and, above all, lots and lots of white! White in all its different shades. Because the color white reflects light and makes (winter-dark) living spaces bright and friendly.
We obviously decorate with lots of candles (remember: long dark winters), but also with stylish art prints that give your Scandi home a personal touch. And these photos and illustrations go perfectly with the Scandi-Chic interior style, so don’t hesitate to steal our ideas.
