Inspire Confidence

Myoli e.V. wants to give children from the South African township of Khayelitsha prospects they would never have otherwise. They are born into a world of poverty, crime, unemployment, and lack of perspective. They did not choose to live in this world, but they must bear the consequences - and Myoli e.V. wants to help them do that.

Township of Khayelitsha – Background

In Xhosa, one of the eleven South African official languages, Khayelitsha means “our new home”. It is one of the three largest townships in South Africa, and the largest in Cape Town. About 25km from the city centre of Cape Town, nearly 1.5 million people live in huts, most of which are made from panel sheets, wood, or cardboard. Despite these terrible living conditions, the people of Khayelitsha radiate vitality and confidence. In the midst of this township, there are people who want to improve the future of Khayelitsha’s children and break the cycle of unemployment, poverty, illness, and crime.

Local Activities

Myoli e.V. wants to challenge and encourage children and adolescents in the township. Amongst their activities in the township are, for example, a Christmas Party with sports and musical programme, as well as various competitions. These are supposed to motivate the children and adolescents to stay away from crime.

Scholarships: "Go4Education"

By granting scholarships, we want to offer the chance of good education to a number of children and adolescents. The selceted students receive a weekly food package - this ensures that the girls and boys are provided with sufficient healthy food for them to be able to concentrate on studying. Moreover, we pay the tuition fees for (private) secondary school. Public schools in the township are free of charge; however, they often do not  provide high quality education. The fees include expenses for school books and school uniforms.

Members of Myoli e.V. assess applications and select candidates. The “Go4Education” scholarship is then granted on a one year basis. Former candidates may hand in a follow-up application and their performance at school will be reassessed.

Myoli projects are funded through donations and sponsorships of single students. Sponsorships include a scholarship and can be covered by individuals or groups of people. Administrative expenses on the other hand are covered by members of Myoli e.V. Our promise: “Every donated cent reaches those in need!”
