The German Red Cross (GRC) is an integral part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which is composed of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the currently 189 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The GRC works either in direct bilateral cooperation with Sister National Societies or it supports operations of the ICRC and of the International Federation. In particular, as a member of the IFRC, the GRC actively participates in developing and implementing quality standards in the field of humanitarian assistance, development cooperation and strengthening resilience. The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement does not make any distinction on the basis of nationality, race, religion, social status or political conviction, and prioritises the most urgent cases.
